Using Bioqueries: Successful Stories and Testimonials

Using Bioqueries to query angiogenesis and disease Linked Open Data

As final users of useful data contained in biological data, the current paradigm of Linked Open Data offers the possible to get access to a number of data contained in diverse connected biological data bases through simple queries interpreted by the machine as multiple parallel queries to the different connected data bases, extraction and integration of the information rendering it available to the user. We have found out that Bioqueries allows for simple queries yielding fast responses containing the integrated information extracted from several data bases. In concrete, we have used Bioqueries to query Linked Open Data concerning angiogenesis, as well as diseases. With the reported results from these queries we have been able to reproduce in a much faster manner our previous work on a systematic review of available information on angiogenesis-related rare diseases (published in Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine 16: 2872-2893, 2012). We expect that using Bioqueries could allow us to get access to otherwise disperse biological information for new research projects with systemic approaches. Bioqueries can be also a very successful tool in the academic area for teaching and learning.
